Should I Open My Windows to Help My Carpets Dry Faster?
First of all, that is a great question! You would be surprised how many times we get asked this!
The answer depends on several factors that must be considered on the day of Service. Drying depends mostly on 3 things; Temperature, Air Movement and Humidity.
On the day of Service is it Hot and Humid?
If so, it would be best to close your home up and turn on the air-conditioning. Why? If it is hot and humid, the moisture in the Cleaned Carpet can not readily evaporate. By turning on the air-conditioning, the air is being cooled and the humidity is being lowered (That is the reason why your air-conditioner accumulates and drains water while running). The Carpets will dry much faster (typically 4-6 hours) if the temperature is set at and around 68 degrees.
On the day of Service is it Cold and Damp?
If so, it would be best to close your home up and turn on the heat. (Furnace) Why? If it is cold and damp the lack of kinetic energy (Heat) slows down the evaporation process. By turning on the furnace (Heat) the air is being warmed and expands to allow greater evaporation and quicker drying. The Carpets will dry much faster (typically 4-6 hours) if the temperature is set at and around 70-72 degrees.
On the day of Service is it 70-72 degrees, sunny with a slight but steady breeze?
If so, by all means Open the Windows! :-) Also, don't forget to go outside and enjoy the beautiful weather!
